Initiatives for
As the national authority for Cybersecurity the CCB has developed several initiatives for specific publics which are presented here.
The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium is the national authority for cybersecurity in Belgium. It supervises, coordinates and monitors the application of the Belgian cybersecurity strategy. Through optimal information exchange, companies, the government, providers of essential services and the population can protect themselves appropriately.
The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) is Belgium’s national cybersecurity authority. Our legal foundation is established by the Royal decree of 14 October 2014, which defines our core mission: to monitor, coordinate, and strengthen cybersecurity across the country. This includes the national cybersecurity strategy, international representation, and raising awareness.
In line with European legislation, the CCB also plays a central role in the implementation of the NIS2 Directive, transposed in Belgium by the law of 26 April 2024. As the national cybersecurity authority, we oversee the cybersecurity obligations of essential and important entities, receive incident reports, and coordinate national crisis management efforts.
We serve as Belgium’s national CSIRT (Computer Security Incident Response Team), providing technical support and incident response capabilities to mitigate cyber threats and vulnerabilities. Additionally, the CCB has been designated as the National Cybersecurity Certification Authority (NCCA), responsible for implementing the EU Cybersecurity Act and managing certification schemes that enhance trust in digital products and services.
Belgium has also appointed the CCB as its National Coordination Centre (NCC-BE) under the EU’s Cybersecurity Competence Network. In this role, we promote research, innovation, and capacity-building in cybersecurity, working closely with European and national stakeholders.
Finally, the CCB is part of the Coordination Committee for Intelligence and Security (CCIV/CCRS), which ensures an integrated and coordinated approach to cyber incidents and crises at national level.
The CCB is headed by director-general Miguel De Bruycker and deputy director-general Phédra Clouner.
As a national authority, the tasks are the following:
the CCB contributes to an integrated and coordinated approach to national cybersecurity.
the CCB empowers the relevant departments and provides them with support.
the CCB maintains the balance between security and fundamental rights, values and needs of modern society.
the CCB encourages the development of new ideas and possibilities which can improve cybersecurity in Belgium and throughout the world.
the CCB acts honestly and honorably.
On 20 May 2021, the National Security Council (NVR) approved the details of the cybersecurity strategy 2.0. This strategy is the framework for Belgium's cross-cutting approach to cyber threats and opportunities for our country. It should make Belgium one of the least vulnerable countries in Europe.
The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium is operating both on national and international levels to increase cybersecurity.
