STAY SAFE ONLINE DURING THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN

News

Cybersecurity and digital safety recommendations for the campaign

This guide “Stay safe online during the election campaign” is intended for political parties and their candidates.

Elections are a crucial element in the democratic process. Terrorist groups, criminals or bodies with political motives can try to influence the election results.

Political parties and their candidates are a major potential target. Recent examples include the leaked Democratic Party e-mails in the run-up to the American presidential elections in 2016 and the e-mails from the campaign team of the current French President, Emmanuel Macron, during the election campaign in 2017.

With this guide, we want to enable candidates to raise their level of cybersecurity, mitigate cybersecurity risks and reduce digital vulnerabilities.

The guide “Stay safe online during the election campaign” is an initiative of the Belgian State Security (VSSE), the Centre for Cyber security Belgium (CCB), and the General Intelligence and Security Service (ADIV/SGRS). Each service made an important contribution to the creation of this guide, based on their expertise.
