About the Spear Warning project

"Spear Warning" is an initiative introduced by the CCB in early 2021 as an active approach within the framework of Active Cyber Protection, as included in the EU NIS2 Directive. Spear Warning focuses on proactively informing companies and individuals about cyber threats, such as vulnerabilities, stolen credentials and malware, to enable them to take timely action and prevent cyber attacks.

Unlike passive methods of disseminating information, these Spear Alerts reach users personally by email, letter or telephone to alert them to current threats. The CCB acts as the direct sender of these alerts, making the message even more effective.

Objectives and results

The main objective of Spear Warning is to inform companies and individuals about cyber threats in a timely manner in order to prevent cyber attacks. Measurable results are collected and analysed on a regular basis to measure the effectiveness of the programme. To date, the Spear Warning project has helped strengthen overall cyber security by identifying vulnerabilities, informing organisations and staying one step ahead of cyber criminals.

Towards a less vulnerable society

This project contributes significantly to the CCB's official mission to make Belgium one of the least vulnerable countries in the EU. By better informing organisations about security issues, data breaches and infections, cyber security will be improved, not only protecting organisations from cyber attacks, but also making citizens' personal data safer.

A unique development of the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium

The Spear Warning concept has been fully developed by the CCB, using new techniques and legal frameworks to make it possible.
