Ambitions and achievements in the field of cyber security in Belgium

Today's working visit by the Prime Minister is an opportunity to highlight our country's ambitions in the field of cyber security. Thanks to the significant investments made in recent years (in particular a doubling of the budget under the current legislature), Belgium is among the good students in the main international rankings in the field of cybersecurity and has even been in first place for several months in the prestigious BitSight ranking.

Recent events have once again demonstrated that cybersecurity threats (targeting companies, citizens or even institutions) are progressing at a dizzying pace and can impact the equilibrium of our societies. The Prime Minister wished to reiterate the ambitions of the federal government and the role of the Centre for Cybersecurity (which is directly under his authority) to develop an ambitious policy involving companies, players in the field, public authorities and citizens.

Actions carried out by the CCB

  • Safeonweb.be (annual campaign on a specific cybersecurity theme) [approximately 200,000 citizens have downloaded the application] and the campaign is known by at least 55% of Belgians;
  • The suspect@safeonweb address received 5 million messages in 2022 (almost 15,000/day) and blocked almost 1.5 million suspicious links in the BePhish project;
  • The Spear Warningand Early Warning System, which allow preventive alerts to be sent to companies/organisations about new vulnerabilities or threats;
  • Safeonweb@work the project which will take shape at the beginning of next year and which aims to provide companies with a toolbox to better protect themselves against cyber threats and possibly to train employees in good practices.
