Belgium World Top for Cyber Resilience

Belgium Ranked in the Highest Category in the Latest UN Global Cybersecurity Index

The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) proudly announces that Belgium has been ranked in Tier 1, the highest category, in the newly published fifth edition of the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI), released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). With a score of 96.81/100, Belgium stands well above the global average of 65.7/100. This recognition underscores Belgium's strong commitment to enhancing cybersecurity both globally and at the European level.

With approximately 5.4 billion people now online, the need for strong and coordinated cybersecurity efforts has never been greater. Established in 2015, the GCI evaluates countries' commitment to cybersecurity based on five key pillars: Legal, Technical, Organizational, Capacity Development, and Cooperation. This comprehensive index helps countries identify areas for improvement and encourages them to strengthen their cybersecurity capabilities and resilience. The 2023 edition of the GCI reflects a globally increased focus on cybersecurity, with the average country score rising to 65.7/100.

20/20 for the Legal and Cooperation Pillars

Belgium has achieved exceptional results, particularly in the areas of legal aspects and cooperation, where it received a perfect score of 20/20. This achievement positions Belgium as a global example in cybersecurity and highlights our balanced approach and comprehensive strategy for building and maintaining cyber resilience.

Since its inception in 2015, the GCI has been an essential tool for countries, organizations, and policymakers to measure and enhance their commitment to cybersecurity. The index uses a multidimensional approach and relies on evidence-based data to provide a reliable assessment of national cybersecurity efforts. It identifies areas for improvement, promotes research and development, and encourages countries to prioritize cybersecurity measures aligned with their unique national contexts. As cybersecurity becomes increasingly vital to national security, economic stability, and public trust, the GCI emphasizes the importance of continuous growth and adaptation in this rapidly evolving field.

The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium congratulates all the countries recognized in this year's GCI report for their contributions to establishing a global standard of excellence in cybersecurity. We look forward to continued collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation to jointly address the cybersecurity challenges of today and tomorrow.
